yesterday i jumped into the Chesapeake Bay. why? purportedly to support maryland special olympics, but i think the real reason was just to do something vaguely interesting. and to get a free sweatshirt. none of these reasons, however, seem to support diving into 28 degree water. it wasn't actually all that bad. i walked out on the beach, stripped down to a swimsuit (or adidas shorts and boxers) and dove in when everyone else did. most people thought it prudent to only go in waist deep (like eric) but i figured if i was going to do it, i was going to do it right. five seconds after submergence, i ran back onto shore, gently toweled off, and promptly put on two pairs of pants, several shirts, and my full winter jacket, hat, and gloves. everything was totally fine and warm except i was pretty sure my toes were going to fall off. several minutes of intensive wiggling later, sensation returned, followed by vague warmth. all was good. the whole experience was actually very scenic, at sandy point state park, with the bay bridge visible in the distance through the swirling snow flurries. can i paint a picture or what?

the good news is that school starts tomorrow...maybe. we're supposed to get five to eight inches tonight, and i'm rooting for a snow emergency. the outbreak of classes means that i will have ample fodder for real, genuine gibbous moon commentary full of cynical observation, witty banter, and priceless professorial quotes. stay tuned...i've already fixed one aspect of my life that i thought was broken - i'm feeling a solid surge of optimism.

i was taking some time, reading actual news, when i came upon an mp3 this guy had made of howard dean's comments the other night. supposedly it has been all over msnbc, cnn, etc., but i had never heard of it (the mp3, not the actual speech). i don't think it's super great, or even that funny, but here's a link: Barlow Farms. let's hope you don't want those fifteen seconds of your life back. the craziest thing about that site is he has a link to a friend's blog known as...gibbous moonerisms. i wonder if i stole the name she wanted?

ok, i reread my last post...worst entry ever. not only were there a million typos (which i corrected), but it's just plain boring. i attribute that to the fact that loud banging noises (?) were emanating from just outside my room. twelve hours later, there is heat. and it feels...glorious. and therefore i feel slightly more creative and/or interesting. but it's bedtime, so maybe i'm just feeling loopy. either way, i forgot to mention one more thing that i know everyone will like...i'm getting a puppy. once the basement is cleaned up and i can find a breeder that won't whore me out, a silly new golden will be roaming the halls of 4701. now everyone will want to come visit.

i'm sitting here in my makeshift room, listening to the repair guy fix/replace our furnace, and got the urge to blog. i actually have a million errands to do, but since i can't leave him alone in the house, i have to make myself useful. and how much more useful could i be than if i didn't take on the narcissistic task of blogging? think about that.

so back to early january...i thought i would be spending a good 10 days dog sitting, but that never panned out. so what did i do? i built my room. days of planning, cleaning, procrastinating, going to plato's with eric, etc. went by with a good amount of visual progress, but nothing functional was constructed. you should see some of the stuff i had planned in my head - metal grids, sheets, screens - everything was up for analysis. fortunately, i decided on good old drywall - and it was one of the best decisions ever made. i can't really describe how happy i am with the result. it went up far easier than expected, with a minimum of cost. so i have a room - all i need now is a door.

the rest of the month so far has been spent hanging out - molly was down for a week, which was awesome. as previously blogged, kyle's birthday was last week, so for that we went headed to the melting pot and then to bentley's for game night (post carolina).

last friday kim and i spontaneously decided to go visit justin, molly and phoebe in syracuse. we drove up that night, but it took longer than usual due to icy roads on 81 in new york. **out of place edit: i have tried to remember what day we did what for ten minutes now, but the excessive furnace banging is seriously interrupting my concentration. ** we went to the mall, ate at hooters, went sledding, watched the georgia tech game, ate awesome steak, went bowling, played cranium, ate subway, watched movies/tv. i do remember drinking heavily on sunday night, where the girls got so drunk they were unable to play a single game without cheating without reason. it was relatively cold up there, with snow every day. it was definitely nice to get out of maryland again for a while.

one more thing before i end...i am supposedly doing a polar bear swim in the chesapeake this weekend for some charity - maybe special olympics. so if anyone wants to donate money, it would be nice.

that's all of it, up to this very moment. weren't you all so excited? my last week of freedom should be spent burning dvds, moving more stuff from home, and finshing the basement. anyone and everyone should come by and see my room, or just visit. and everyone should watch the terps take on the dookies tomorrow night. word.

went to visit molly and justin in syracuse for the weekend...and came back to a house with no heat and a "broken" kegerator. plus, eric didn't clean the basement like he said he would. shocking. so what do i do? build a desk. i think i need to go back to school, at least to get a little structure in my life. but my desk is kind of awesome.

also, i wrote to the cranium people because the game i bought came with a faulty hourglass timer. they are sending me a new one, free of charge. now that is customer service.

ok...i'm back as i promised yesterday. this might be a new record, blogging when i actually said i would.

anyways, the sunday after christmas we drove back to rockville. the next day, i made my way to 4701 - jimmy was there. we hung out - maybe we played beer pong -and went to target for some impulse shopping. molly got a pad in the shape of an "m", i bought cranium primo, jimmy bought a legolas action figure, and michael bought sassy pants. this is the same kind of poor combination of shoppers that leads seemingly normal people to purchase giant six foot stuffed whales and ice cream machines to be puked on/played with only once. the next day, we made our way to lou and judy's for salami-cheese breadsticks (or simply "sticks" as eric refers to them) and beer pong on the kitchen island. i watched most of better luck tomorrow on jimmy's personal dvd player on the car ride up - a surprisingly decent movie. the next day was new years eve. after beer pong was a scintillating two hour game of dvd pop culture trivial pursuit - jimmy and eric won on a freaking nba jam sports and games question. we woke up to christina and molly coming back from shopping, complete with gamecube and the new mariocart. kim arrived, and she and molly went for a run while michael and i played catch on the beach and took a romantic stroll out on the jetty. the four of us returned to the kids still playing mariocart. next was a date at pete and elda's for an entire double xl pizza and a free tshirt. then we went back to the house for judy's new years eve pre party then on the headliners for open bar and the night itself. i didn't get that blitzed, but i also don't remember that much. i know i missed molly and kim kissing when i was in the bathroom, and i know my plan with eric to alternate jaeger shots with michael broke down. i'm not entirely sure who my first new years kiss was this year - maybe it was michael's sister liza. anyways, people started leaving, starting with christina, then justin - randomly took a cab home alone - then i laura, mario, and the other justin, then molly and kim, then eric and jimmy, then i think the rest of us - liza, michael, scott, casey, elise/savannah/velvet and myself. at one point we stopped to talk to liza's husband who was on duty, and at another we pulled over because liza thought michael was going to puke. during this stoppage time the birthday boy proceeded to chuck a plastic cup out of the window right as a cop drove by. he pulled up behind us (and right then i got a flashback to the beginning of super troopers, where they say "pull the car over" and the kids say "we're already pulled over...we can't pull over any farther") and talked to liza a little bit but then let us go. we got home, and apparently i had told kim at some point that she could sleep on my couch (drunken chivalry - why couldn't i just be an angry drunk? maybe jd-like) so i slept upstairs in the family room on the floor. next day we drove home to 4701 and more beer pong. what is it about jimmy that brings out the beer pong in us?

shockingly, i'm bored again. i'll catch everyone up to date later...at least we're less than two weeks behind now...

long time no blog...i actually should try and write more often, because when i don't, i seem to summarize more than relate the inane little tales that we have all come to love. which is sad.

traveling during the holidays was a bear, though it was totally worth it. first stop was sk to visit joy the weekend before christmas. good news is that i had a great time simply hanging out with her and her friends, not to mention getting kingston pizza and d'angelos. bad news is, we broke up. yes, we were "on a break" before, but now it's permanent. i'm not happy about it, but it doesn't make sense to be dating when she's soon to be in a different hemisphere. also, her friends got me hooked on cranium, which is a gift i don't think i can ever repay.

trip two was up to irondequoit to see the trozone for christmas. two grandparents, seven aunts/uncles, and ten grandchildren makes for a big holiday. we played a little basketball and a little cranium, but there was no snow for the first time in years, so our annual sledding expedition was nixed. as for gifts, i bartered my way into a home theatre system, which has quickly become a rival to cecilia. i'm eventually going to set it up in my skirt free zone at 4701, but for now i'm gracing the ladies with it's presence.

ok, i just got distracted, and now i'm not in a blogging mood anymore. i'll get back to this less than exciting yarn later tonight, or maybe tomorrow.
